I used to think I was tired of het ships, but…

I’m tired of heterosexist ships.

I’m not gonna go “Ew, het!” just because a male character and a female character become an item. Some of my biggest OTPs are M/F ships. Did you not see me raving about Southside With You? Do you not see me tag Morticia/Gomez or David Bowie/Iman with “relationship goals”? Elisa/Goliath was one of my first OTPs, mkay?

So it’s not M/F that irritates me.

What irritates me is an awesome woman attaching herself to some (usually white) ain’t-shit fuckboy who only drags her down.

What irritates me is “breathing the same air” is the basis for their relationship.

What irritates me is when a (usually white) female character has much better chemistry with other female characters, or even with–gasp!–a man of color (and don’t let him be BLACK!!!), but she’s head over heels for some conventionally attractive white dude.

What irritates me is that 99.9999% of the time, a (white) male character chooses a (white) female character as “The One” before she has feelings for him.

What irritates me is that the vast majority of women in M/F ships conform to Eurocentric beauty standards that amplify the association of whiteness with beauty and worthiness.

What irritates me is that the vast majority of M/F ships are about his gaze and his wants and his needs and not hers.

THIS THIS THIS

I like to call this the Sk8er Boi phenomenon. A complete lack of history, love, chemistry, anything that’s required for a healthy, believable relationship.

Just “he’s a boy, she’s a girl” and that’s supposed to be enough for the audience. “Love at first sight” is such flimsy, shallow bullshit.

It’s really no wonder more people attach themselves to the same-sex friendships in series.

OP you’re not describing heterosexism

you’re literally talking about the highly prevalent misogyny and racism in mainstream media that goes into forming really terrible chemistry-lacking or even abusive het pairings

male content creators will literally go out and create their dream girls for their self inserts to fall in love with even if it makes no sense or the actor has better chemistry with literally everyone else in the cast but the guy playing their self insert the woman both the character and actress do not matter because it really is all about the man and the creator’s fantasy

I support fandom content creators specifically women creating fandom content that will write progressive m/f content that goes against the misogynistic and racist trends described

I’d say for women that seeing that kind of progressive content is more important than getting into making all the same-sex friendships into m/m slash because most women are straight and straight women writing men and gay relationships can become fetishistic, recreate unbalanced heterosexual dynamics (ex. overtly feminizing a man in fanon), and aren’t even the most helpful narratives for their own lives because they aren’t gay men

so yeah m/f is important but not racist, misogynistic m/f
