the more I think about it, the less and less sense it makes for Terra to be one of the Darknesses in KH3 because like

in literally every moment after Xehanort possesses him we see Terra fighting back. in the Graveyard, in Radiant Garden, and now in darkness limbo as 0.2 showed us, ten years later, we always see Xehanort struggling to control him. why?

because he can’t.

at no point can he fully, 100% smother Terra’s influence.

the only time Xehanort and Terra seem to coexist “peacefully” is during the Apprentice-Xehanort arc – during which time their hearts were sealed and memories presumably lost.

and considering this series is constantly stressing how intelligent and farsighted Xehanort is I just can’t imagine he’s actually stupid enough to count Terra among his 13 when he knows full well by now that Terra is a force to be reckoned with. Terra would require far too much focus and effort to maintain a hold of, because a) IT DIDN’T WORK TWELVE YEARS AGO AND IT DIDN’T WORK TWO YEARS AGO SO WHY WOULD ANYTHING HAVE CHANGED, especially when b) we’ve seen that Terra’s only gotten stronger and more confident since BBS?? and c) I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again: Terra was impossible to control with Xehanort’s whole heart inside him. attempting to control him with only 1/13th of his heart is just? asking for failure? I mean really?? why don’t you just carry around a ticking time bomb while you’re at it man

#Well you know what they say#pride comes before the fall#honestly I can see Xehanort losing partially because he got way too cocky#And understandably so#I mean shit if I was half as successful as he was#it’d certainly go to my head“

lets also consider that xehanort may also be slowly becoming more and more unhinged. not just from age, but according to what i’ve read his original plan was to address “the tyranny of light” in his realm, which has slowly slid down into practically doing everything he can to eradicate light. that’s not even getting into the fact that his original plan mostly involved getting ahold of kingdom hearts for power and planned to destroy the world’s again just to see what the hell would happen.

plus, i think the only reason xehanort hasn’t tried more to crush terra likely is because he’s been trying to use terra’s body, aqua’s armor and that armor’s connection to aqua to find a way past castle oblivion defenses to get ahold of ven, so he’s probably planning on using ven as another xehanort.

Terra’s full Anakin so I’m expecting some Vader-like ending for him in 3.

Bonus points if they even have Vader in the game itself since ya know, Disney.

…I have a really bad headache but all right here we go, lol:

Regarding Xehanort’s arrogance, yes, he is undoubtedly full of himself. That’s what the entire DDD scene was about. However, he openly acknowledges his past mistakes in BBS: “I acted rashly. I can admit that now.” Literally “yeah I screwed up because I was in a rush lol my bad, not doing that anymore.” And that’s super obvious considering he went to all this trouble to try and get Sora even though he has 80 years’ or so worth of the timeline and millions of worlds at his disposal. He’s patient. He’s being very careful with choosing his vessels. Hence why I say he would be an idiot to even consider Terra now, because Terra has never been anything but trouble and Xehanort has never been able to suppress him for more than minutes at a time. Attempting to reign Terra in at this point isn’t arrogant, it’s stupid.

which has slowly slid down into practically doing everything he can to eradicate light.

…no it hasn’t? he’s so biased against light because it’s viewed as “better” when he believes both light and dark should be balanced. straight from his reports:

“Light and darkness are two sides of the same coin; without darkness, there is no light.”

“My brother pupil Eraqus thinks only in absolutes. He has persuaded himself that light is the only way, but forgets that light cannot exist without shadow. I believe a balance of light and darkness is what sustains our World, but too much of the darkness has been stamped out, disrupting that balance. Someone must tear down this tyranny of light and reorganize the World around the darkness which then creeps back in.”

“If I become the first to open Kingdom Hearts’ door, I can create the Next World in which light and darkness exist in perfect equilibrium.”

he wants Kingdom Hearts, yes. he’s not entirely sane, agreed. but as you said, he’s had whacky goals for a long time now and yet he’s always retained his (very, very impressive) intelligence. saying “he might go crazy and make bad decisions” is guesswork, tbh, and isn’t at all supported by his past actions when his borderline insanity has never been an issue before.

plus, i think the only reason xehanort hasn’t tried more to crush terra likely is because he’s been trying to use terra’s body

…I’m a little confused by this? if he wants to keep Terra’s body, then crushing his heart is the only way to do that. And as I said in my original post, Xehanort can’t erase Terra, as is very evident in BBS and 0.2. true, he found a use for Terra’ heart, not body, in trying to trick Aqua during the 0.2, but Xehanort’s efforts to eradicate Terra’s heart back in BBS said that he wasn’t planning to use Terra way back then to get to Ven ten years later (although I agree, yes, he did want Ven as a vessel, we’ve been able to deduce that since the original DDD). he shouldn’t have even known that Ven’s body was empty back then, and even if he did, allowing Terra to continue struggling against him would have done more harm than good (as we see in 0.2 when Terra reveals Xehanort’s intention to go after Ven).

so sparing Terra (altho that’s clearly not the case) really does nothing for him??

Terra’s full Anakin so I’m expecting some Vader-like ending for him in 3.

….Terra’s nothing like Anakin though? literally the only things they have in common are being used by the big bad guy and having a showdown with their masters, both of which are popular tropes. Terra followed Xehanort, yes, but because he felt Xehanort was the only one who could understand him, not because Terra was tricked into thinking someone’s life depended on him (which was largely Anakin’s fault in the first place because THIS IS EXACTLY WHY JEDI AREN’T ALLOWED TO HAVE ATTACHMENTS). Terra was tricked through no fault of his own. Terra never slaughtered comrades and children or ever did anything bad. Terra was never legitimately evil – he always held onto his morals, up until the end. Even when he gave into darkness at the very end, he only did it for the power to protect his friends; he didn’t use it to take orders and hurt people. He was the only one who paid for it his choice, whereas Anakin ended up becoming a deadly force (ha) that impacted countless people during his years as Vader where he willingly hurt and murdered.

And even if Terra WAS like Anakin (which, again, he’s really not)… this isn’t Star Wars. Yes, I know, Nomura is a fan, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to copy everything over. Just because one canon did it doesn’t mean another will.

and besides, Riku is the real Anakin of the series. he did things he knew were wrong because he wanted the power to protect Kairi – and he arguably did pull a Vader in the end by locking himself in the Realm of Darkness to help Sora, essentially sacrificing himself as far as he knew.
